A resident of Arizona for over 30 years owner & winemaker Rod Snapp is an entrepreneur who's roots go deep in the community. His experience and passion for the art of cooking went hand in hand with fine wine and eventually led him to a 6 year enology & viticulture apprenticeship and the purchase of 10 acres of sloping volcanic hillsides. 2009 marked Rod's 10th year as a
Northern Arizona Winemaker.
Owner & assistant winemaker Cynthia Snapp ( Mrs. Javelina Leap ) has 20+ years in the Sedona area and is an accomplished artist, designer & equestrian. Influenced by her traditional european upbringing she is no stranger to the culinary arts & shares Rod's palate & vision. Cynthia has learned wine making literally from the ground up and in 2009 became Rod's official assistant winemaker. Look for Cynthia's own wine release at the Javelina Leap Tasting room in summer 2010
Javelina Leap Vineyard & Winery is located in a valley named Page Springs for the Page family who farmed the area at the turn of the century and also for the abundance of artesian springs. Some of the original family farms and ranches still exist in the area. Another of the early settlers the Schurman family grew and sold Zinfandel wine grapes to miners.
Our staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They are happy to answer any questions you have about our vines, wines and local historic restaurants. The Manzanita Inn, Grasshopper Grill & Page Springs Steakhouse are all on the Verde Valley WineTrail. In addition there are several wine tasting tour companies and limo services available. On Saturdays we now offer free and informative barrel cellar tours. The tours are given by Dr. Russ Balda, North America's leading ornithologist. Recognized internationally for his ground breaking research study on the Arizona Pinyon Jay, Dr Balda retired and traded in his wings for grapes. Along with wife Judith a retired educator born and raised in Arizona, the Balda's enthusiasm for fine wine and all things related has enhanced the Javelina Leap Vineyard & Winery experience.
