After taking a fiber clay sculpting workshop, multi media artist Jonie Wolter found a new passion. The whimsical pieces she creates are who she is – a little goofy and fun loving. These sculptures are made from a low fire fiber clay which she finds gives them durability and sturdiness. Most of her “Senior Series” pieces are modeled on herself – full figured, middle aged and ready to live life to its fullest.
Joanie’s “Ravens and Friends Series” is a playful look at some of nature’s critters through her own eyes. Joanie’s “Big Ass Raven” received the People’s Choice Award at the 2009 Sedona Arts Center’s Members Show and her “Fast Food” roadrunner received the 2010 Coconino County Fair Best of Show Award. Her latest award, for her baby raven ornament, was another People’s Choice in which she won Best Ornament at the Friends of the Library Festival of Wreaths.
In addition to her art, Joanie is now teaching classes in sculpting with fiber clay. So, she has combined her two passions of creating art and teaching. How can life get any better than that?
Joanie’s artistic name is “Cuvée”, a term used in the wine world to mean “a blend”. Her blend of humor, creativity and imagination, along with mixed media, create pieces she truly hopes you will enjoy owning as much as she enjoyed making.
